Since from the times of British rule, the basements are sealed. Many times British government tried to open it, but all the time they had to shut it.
Reasons behind sealed basements of Taj Mahal-
There can be a lots of reasons behind this. Some of them are given below.
- Many archaeology findings says that there are the ‘kabra‘ of Shah Jahan and Mumtaj Mahal. Thus the basements are secured.
- According to findings and structural design of Taj , it can be said as once it was a shiva temple. Some people peeped inside the basement and found there are sculptures and idols of lord Shiva proofing the temple of lord Shiva. In order to prevent any religious issues and riots, the basements are sealed.
- According to science, sealing can also be done to prevent the deposition of Co2 inside. If there will be deposition of Co2 then, it will cause the marbles to deteriorate which can cause cracks in the place.
- Many people even believe there is some haunting insight, which turned the basements to stay closed.
