Holy visit to Baidyanath Temple Deoghar and its significance

India is said as the land of temples and divinity. Here are many temples has a great history and decades old. Today we will be talking about Baidyanath Temple situated at Deoghar India.

Where it is located?

Baidyanath Temple also locally called Baba Baidyanath Dham is situated at Deoghar Jharkhand in India. This is a hindu temple dedicated to lord Shiva and Shakti.

Overview and structure of the temple:

Baidyanath Temple is a huge temple about 72 feet tall in lotus shape which looks whitish in color.

There are four gateways to enter this temple. There are many more temples in the place dedicated to Mata Parvati, Ganesha, Kartikey, lord vishnu and many more.

Religious significance of Baidyanath Temple :

It is a sacred hindu temple which is unique in itself. This temple is one among 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It is also one among 51 shaktipeeth.

It is believed the heart of Mata Sati fell here. According to scriptures and Shivapuran, this temple is the symbol of power and wisdom. Lord Shiva with Mata Parvati resides here in the formation of Shiva and Shakti.

Best time to visit Baidyanath Temple :

In Hinduism, Sawan or Shrawan months are the best time to worship Lord Shiva.

During this time, a huge crowd of people all over from India visits here and worship Lord Shiva with Ganga jal and milk included with bel patra.

Story behind Baidyanath Temple :

The story behind Baidyanath Jyotirlinga is very remarkable and related to King of Lanka Ravana. He was known as the foremost devotee of Lord Shiva.

Once to plead Shiva, Ravana did very hard tapasya. Getting pleased of his faith, Lord Shiva asked to get for a boon. In this Ravana said, “I want you to reside in my Lanka”. To fulfill his desire Lord Shiva gave his ‘kamna ling’ and said to take it lanka.

He was also advised not to keep anywhere on the way otherwise it will get permanently attached to the place it is kept.

By this, all the gods got scared of Lord Shiva going to Lanka. They immediately went to lord Vishnu and asked for some help.

In this Shrihari planned for Leela, he asked Varuna dev to enter Ravana stomach through achman.

On the way to lanka, Ravana felt to pee. He saw a milkman coming from there. He handed over the shivalinga and went for loo.

The man was no other but Lord Vishnu himself. He put the Shivalinga on the earth with gratitude and went away.

After coming Ravana found shivalinga on earth. He tried a lot but Shivalinga was permanently attached. Later on all the God including lord Brahma and Vishnu worshipped it.

How the temple got its name?

After the shivalinga was worship a man called ‘baiju‘ was passing from there. He too worshipped the shivalinga and thus lord Shiva himself blessed him to the place known by his self, Baba Baidyanath Dham.

Worship in Baidyanath Temple :

People wear saffron /orange-colored dresses and comes here. There keep chanting names as ‘bolbum bolbum’. They have to stand in long queues and then worship God one by one.

Many people even prefer to come here barefooted, with immense devotion and faith. They have to pass rocks, pebbles, hot earth and many other difficulties. It has its own significance and faith of people to get shiva’s blessings.
